YOU THE NIGHT AND THE MUSIC featuring the jazz vocals of Kathy
Fry will find a ready audience with jazz listeners, for it has a singer
whose seductive singing will captivate. Kathy Fry has excellent
phrasing.
Backed with some fine musicians, and the gifted trumpet and flugelhorn
sounds of Jim Doherty, such songs as "Autumn Leaves," "Give
Me The
Simple Life," "That's Life," "Blame It On My Youth,"
and "You'd Be So
Nice To Come Home To" will linger in the audience's ears long after the
CD has played. 13 selections, each one imaginative and enjoyable.
Special note: Listen to the piano and singer interplay on the memorable
"You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To." Jim Doherty gives some outstanding
solo work on this classic song as does Jack Schaffer on bass. Michael
B-B gives a perfect piano solo.
Nice collection. A touch of elegance and full of class is how this
collection rates. Kathy Fry's version of Van Morrison's "Moondance"
is
one which will surprise the audience with its intensity and style.

In the long history of jazz music, women in jazz appear to be
a rare bunch these days, both musicians and vocalist. Today,
check out Kathy Fry. This skilled internationally traveled
jazz vocalist and her grand ability to scat and riff include
being pianist and composer.
Her current CD carries some nice jazz standards too. If you
want to add another woman jazz artist to your music collection
pick up Kathy Fry's, 'You The Night And The Music'. I got an
opportunity to catch her live at the Jazz Estate in Milwaukee
November 3rd. Fry is a singer who truly enjoys playing the
music of jazz and has put out her very cool CD, 'You The Night
And The Music' on her personal Parallelle Productions in
Glendale Wisconsin.
Fry sings remarkable renditions of great jazz standards by
Cole Porter, Jimmy Van Heusen, and Johnny Mercer to name a
few. The 13 songs like Van Morrison's 'Moon Dance', or
Porter's 'What is this thing called love' starts Fry's quartet
swinging in high form with this bebop tune.
Adding her own personal signature. She influences her strong
raspy, yet very clean, vocal range which compliments songs,
like 'At Last' and the mellow ballad 'With A Song In My
Heart', which features a soft duet with Fry and pianist
Michael BB.
Other band members on this CD are John Schaffer, bass; Jim
Doherty, trumpet; Ken Koeppler, drums on tracks 2-4-5-10. Fry
has faultless ranges and lyrical qualities that makes this CD
deserve a spot in any true jazz traditionalist CD collection,
file it in your women in jazz section and watch it grow. In a
field full of male jazz performers, let's not disregard the
new women in jazz.
